I was delighted to be offered a solo show by Artizan Gallery in Torquay last year. I am very excited that ‘Animalium Miscellaneum’ has now opened!

I had shown some screen prints with the gallery a couple of years ago in a group show. They have recently changed their operational techniques and are dedicating one of their spaces to printmaking alongside sculpture. This includes solo shows by invited artists, and I was very pleased to be one of the chosen artists.
It is a mixture of new and earlier work, including screen prints and cyanotypes. All pieces are linked together with an overall animal theme. I have produced some new screen prints with the assistance of my partner Chris who is the screen printing wizard. They are looking amazing all together in a cohesive show! All finished off with beautiful frames by Print2Wall framer in Torquay.

The new screen prints continue my popular Natural History themed series. They draw inspiration from vintage charts and natural history illustrations to create captivating works that challenge conventional classification. The new ‘sets’ include the Trunk Set. This set features animals with trunks or big noses, like an elephant, tapir, and proboscis monkey. There’s also the Horned Set of animals with horns, including a rhino, a big horn sheep, wildebeest and a bongo. The Blue Set consists of blue birds and winged insects. Additionally, there is the Snow Set featuring animals like a snow leopard, snowy owl, polar bear and snow monkey. An Owl Looming is a collage of various owl breeds such as great grey owl, tawny and white-faced scops.

The Blue Set, Gold Set and PInk Set on show.

Two of my swan screen prints also on show.

An Owl looming in all it’s glory. A picture of me at the private view. This was the first time I had seen it all up, after dropping the work off several weeks before to be framed. So nice to just turn up and see all your work framed and up on the wall!

The exhibition continues until 29th March 2025. You can find it at Artizan Gallery, 7 Lucius Street, Torquay, Devon, TQ2 5UW. If you can’t make it in person, you can view and buy all the work online too.
If you do make it along, I would love to hear which was your favourite piece!
